Everything you need know about the peel off base coat

Do you have dry or oily nail beds?

Before you use your Esmio Peel Off Base Coat, it is best to determine the type of nail bed you have. To put it simply, it is likely that if you have oily skin, you have oily nail beds, and vice versa, if you have dry skin, you have dry nail beds. For more information about the difference in nail beds, read our blog here.

This is especially important before using the Peel Off Base Coat as it will impact how we recommend you apply it to best prevent damage to the nails.

What is the Peel Off Base Coat:

The Peel Off Base Coat was formulated for Esmio customers to allow them to easily peel off their Esmio One Step Gel polish without any damage to their nail beds.

Now that you have determined your nail bed type, we can proceed to apply it.

Applying Peel Off on DRY nails:

When using the Peel Off on DRY nails, we need to ensure that the natural oils in the nail will resurface before peeling off the gel (and this will take longer for dry nails). Applying Cuticle Oil to the natural nail before applying 2 coats of the Peel Off will ensure this. For safe and damage free removal, follow the steps below:

  1. Skip buffing
  2. Apply a small amount of Cuticle Oil to your nail beds
  3. Rinse hands with water
  4. Dry hands with a microfibre towel or paper towel (to avoid fluff)
  5. Apply 2 coats of Peel Off
  6. Follow with 3 coats of any Esmio One Step Gel Colour (If you only apply 2 coats, we recommend applying our Optional Top Coat because the Peel Off works best when you have a thicker nail foundation)
  7. If you wait at least 7 days before peeling of your manicure then you allow your natural oils to resurface, and with the assistance of the applied cuticle oil, makes it easier to peel

Following this process means your manicure should last up to 10 days.

PLEASE NOTE: If the Polish isn’t easily peeling off this means the natural oils in your nails have not resurfaced yet. Using cuticle oil and moisturisers will help this process, however, picking at the polish will only damage them and is not recommended. Our One Step Gel Remover will also remove the Peel Off Base Coat.

Applying Peel Off on OILY nails:

When using Peel Off on OILY nails, achieving the desired peel off removal should be simple. Follow the steps below:

  1. Skip buffing/extreme light buff
  2. Apply 2 coats of Peel Off
  3. Follow with 3 coats of any Esmio One Step Gel Colour (If you only apply 2 coats, we recommend applying our Optional Top Coat because the Peel Off works best when you have a thicker nail foundation)

Following this process means your manicure should last 10+ days.

Troubleshooting:

If you are having problems with peeling off your One Step Gel Polish. Please see these tips below:

  • Your coat may be too thin. We recommend applying 2 thin coats of the Peel Off Base as it will require a decent thickness for ease of peel.
  • Your nail may be too dehydrated. Peel off works best for people with naturally oily nail beds. Do not use a dehydrator or acetone to take the moisture out of your nails when using the Peel Off Base Coat.
  • Wait at least 1 day after removing your manicure before starting your new manicure with Peel Off Base Coat. This allows your natural oils to resurface.
  • Do not over buff. Buffing creates a rough surface for the polish to adhere to. Buffing too much will make it more difficult for you to be able to peel off your base coat, risking your natural nails getting peeled off.
  • Do not peel your polish off the next day unless you have not buffed and have applied a moisturiser/cuticle oil. Peel Off Base Coat requires some time for the natural oils to resurface and therefore we recommend waiting at least 7 days.

Do I need Peel Off Base Coat:

We recommend using our Peel Off Base Coat if you like to change your colours up more frequently, if you love a quick and easy removal, and also if you love how satisfying peeling it off is, like we do!
